Improving Automatically Created Mappings using Logical Reasoning
|
Abstract: |
A lot of attention has been devoted to heuristic methods for discovering semantic mappings between ontologies. Despite impressive improvements, the mappings created by these automatic matching tools are still far from being perfect. In particular, they often contain wrong and redundant mapping rules. In this paper we present an approach for improving such mappings using logical reasoning in the context of Distributed Description Logics (DDL). Our method is orthogonal to the matching algorithm used and can therefore be used in combination with any matching tool. We
explain the general idea of our approach informally using a small example and present the results of experiments conducted on the OntoFarm Benchmark which is part of the Ontology Alignment Evaluation challenge.
